Protect the tree from any source of heat. Christmas trees are flammable and must be protected from exposure to heat or flame.
Apply a Fresh Cut
Before you place the tree in the stand, cut at least 1" off of the trunk. Immediately place the tree in the stand and fill with water.
Water the Tree Frequently
Check the water level daily. For the first few days water the tree first in the morning and in the evening before bed. If it goes dry, the tree will seal over with pitch. It will then not be able to take water. If you expect the tree to retain it's needles longest, it will require a fresh cut.
